The settlers of the State of Franklin stood for the American ideal that if the people feel underrepresented by their government, they will right the wrong. In 1960, the small county of McDonald, Missouri was intentionally left off a new map of the area. It wasn't until signs were erected outside the county lines declaring it a brand new state that the people of McDonald were taken seriously. They may not have gotten statehood, but they sure brought tourism back to their county!
