Global coin production in 2025: A country-by-country snapshot

There isn’t one master number that tells us how many coins were made worldwide in 2025. Each country reports its own figures, and there’s no global group pulling all that data together. But we can look at a few key regions to get a sense of what’s happening.
United States:
The U.S. Mint expects to produce about 5.44 billion circulating coins in 2025. That’s lower than previous years and partly tied to the official end of penny production in November. It also falls short of the Treasury’s earlier estimate of 6.5 billion coins for the fiscal year.
Europe (Eurozone & UK):
Euro coins are made by various national mints and coordinated by the European Central Bank, but there’s no single number published for 2025. One trend worth noting: the UK didn’t order any new 1p (one-penny) or 2p (two-pence) coins in a recent year, thanks to a continued decline in cash use.
Canada:
In June 2025, the Royal Canadian Mint released a new $2 commemorative circulation coin, minting three million of them.
Australia:
The Royal Australian Mint also issued a new $2 commemorative coin in June 2025.
Of course, these examples represent just a slice of global coin production. Dozens of countries mint their own circulating and commemorative pieces every year.
