So in between helpings of turkey, stuffing, pie, and leftovers you might want to check 7kmetals.com a time or two so you don't miss some very rare coins.

Ready to find out what we've got?

Buckle up. It's going to be an exciting ride!

Morgan Silver Dollars - Idaho Collection

The Silver Morgan Dollar was the first silver dollar produced by the US Mint after the Coinage Act of 1873. With a brief mintage period from 1878 to 1904 and then minted again in 1921. These beautiful specimens came from a private collection in California and were hand selected and sent to Florida to be graded by NGC.

That's the short version of the story. Since we have room here, we'll tell you the whole story. These Morgans were the private treasure of a professional coin dealer. He sold most of the coins that he came across during his career, but some he kept for his family's own treasure trove. They were collected one by one over the space of a lifetime. Only the best condition, rarest year coins were kept.

After the father passed away, the sons decided to share a large portion of these with the public. They offered them to us to share with our members. We sent them to NGC to be professionally graded and encapsulated. Now, these rare mementos from the past are ready to find their future homes in your collection, with your family.

Peace Dollar - Idaho Collection

This silver dollar is commonly known as the Peace Dollar. It was created to commemorate peace after World War I. In November of 1921 a contest was created to design the Peace Dollar and in December a design was agreed on. Production started quickly thereafter on December 26, 1921 in the Philadelphia mint where over 1 MILLION coins were minted before New Years! In 1965 this was valued at ONE US Dollar, today this same coin is worth more than 20 times that!

In addition to the Morgan Silver Dollars, the Idaho Collection also contained many excellent Peace Dollars. During the 1920s there were over 190 million Peace Dollars struck in the United States. Many were melted down during World War II, due to the Wartime Act of 1942. Many more were destroyed during the 1980s, when silver hit $50 per ounce. No one knows how many Silver Peace Dollars still exist today. That makes these well preserved coins even more rare and collectible.

Morgan Silver Dollars - California Collection

The Silver Morgan Dollar was the first silver dollar produced by the US Mint after the Coinage Act of 1873. With a brief mintage period from 1878 to 1904 and then minted again in 1921. These beautiful specimens came from a private collection in California and were hand selected and graded by NGC.

The story of the California Collection is very similar to the Idaho Collection. The man who collected these Morgans saved the very best for his legacy and sold the rest to pay for his expenses toward the end of his life. The best part of this story is instead of his family being saddled with debt at the end of his life, all expenses were paid for and he still left a legacy of wealth. These coins are some of the best and came from a legacy collection of a very wise man.

Morgan Silver Dollars - The Great Montana Collection

A hoard of over 10,000 vintage Morgan Silver Dollars was recently discovered in a bomb shelter in Montana. Here's the story:

During the 1950s and 1960s, a Montana businessman named Zollie Kelman bought U.S. silver dollars in official 1,000-coin government bags. He then made a deal with an armored car company to drop off the bags at his home in Great Falls on the company’s regular route from Minnesota to Montana. Once he had the bags at his home, he carefully spread the coins out on his kitchen table where the entire family searched through the pile cherry picking coins for their quality, shine, dates and appeal. He later cleverly stored the coins in a concrete bomb shelter on his property.

In the 1970s, thanks to Kelman’s wagging tongue, word got out about his valuable hoard. One day, three men in masks raided Kelman's home looking for the booty. They held his family hostage and prepared to tear the home apart in search of the prized coins. Luckily, one family member managed to stay hidden and called the police. Within minutes, the house was surrounded by law enforcement officers. They freed the family and arrested the robbers. Had the attempted robbery been successful, there may never have been a Great Montana Collection!

We have secured a very small number of these. We will list them as "Montana Collection Morgan Dollar MS64 Common Date". Watch for them to show up in the 7k Selected section sometime this weekend.
